How to play Queens

Place one queen in every row, every column and every colour region. Queens can't touch each other, not even diagonally. Tap a cell once to mark it as empty, tap again to place a queen, and drag to mark many cells at once.

  1. Start with the smallest colour region: its queen has only a few possible cells.
  2. Mark every cell a queen would rule out: its row, its column, its region and the eight cells around it.
  3. When a row, column or region has a single open cell left, that's where its queen goes (single candidate).
  4. If a cell would wipe out a whole small region, it can't hold a queen (cell elimination).
  5. On harder grids, look for two regions squeezed into the same two rows or columns (confinement).

FAQ

Is this the LinkedIn Queens game?

No. Solvedle is an independent puzzle site and is not affiliated with LinkedIn. The puzzles follow the same rules as LinkedIn's Queens: one queen in every row, column and colour region, and no two queens touching, not even diagonally. That rule set is the classic one-star Star Battle puzzle.

Can I play Queens unlimited?

Yes. Press New for another puzzle as often as you like, from 6×6 to 10×10 and easy to expert. Puzzles you have already solved are skipped first.

How do I solve a Queens puzzle?

Tap a cell once to mark an X-style dot where a queen cannot go, twice for a queen. Start with the smallest colour region, mark every cell a queen there would rule out, and look for rows, columns or regions with a single open cell. Harder grids need confinement: two regions squeezed into two rows.

Is there a daily Queens puzzle?

Solvedle's daily trio uses the same rules: a 6×6, an 8×8 and a 9×9 every day, with streaks and a leaderboard-style percentile.

Does every puzzle have one solution?

Yes. Each grid is checked by an exhaustive solver for a unique solution and by a human-style solver to make sure it never needs guessing.
