How to solve Queens puzzles
Place one queen in each row, column and colour region. Queens never touch, even diagonally. Solve by reducing possible cells, then look for regions that reserve entire rows or columns.
Each worked example below comes from a real Solvedle practice puzzle with one verified solution. Reveal the next deduction, then use the link to play that full puzzle from the beginning. Crowns are queens; dots mean an empty cell. Letters identify regions, including in black and white.
Single candidates: the last possible cell
Every row, column and colour region needs exactly one queen. If just one available cell remains in any of these units, place its queen there. Mark its row, column, region and adjacent cells as empty.

Reveal the deduction
region A has one open cell: place its queen at row 1, column 1.
Elimination: protect a whole region
A queen cannot go in a cell that would rule out every remaining position in another row, column or region. Mark that cell as empty, even if no queen can be placed yet.

Reveal the deduction
A queen at row 1, column 2 would leave region B with no available cell. Mark that cell as empty.
Confinement: reserve rows and columns
If two regions have available cells only in the same two rows, their queens use both rows. Mark every other cell in those rows as empty. This also works with columns, or with rows confined to regions.
6×6 · medium · before the deduction
Reveal the deduction
region A and region D have their available cells confined to column 5 and column 6. Those units need all the queens available there; the other cells outlined can be marked empty.
When you get stuck
Check which rows, columns and regions still need a queen. Start with those with the fewest available cells. Do not apply chess movement rules: queens may share a long diagonal; only immediate diagonal neighbours are forbidden.
Is Queens the same as Star Battle?
These Queens puzzles use the one-star Star Battle rule set, with crowns instead of stars. Two-star Star Battle needs additional reasoning; this guide covers one queen per unit. Solvedle is independent and is not affiliated with LinkedIn.
